Lesson 2.2 Genesis part one

GENESIS I.1

In principio creavit Deus caelum et terram.

In the beginning (principium) created God the heaven and earth. 

Principium is the first thing, or the beginning. Latin nouns usually change form when they are paired with a preposition. “In principio” simply means “in the beginning”.  You can find out more about the different noun forms in the grammar section here.
