Lesson 6.8 Everyday Latin

E PLURIBUS UNUM

Out of many, one.

More literally, out of a plurality of things, one thing.

This is the motto of the United States, and it appears on the Great Seal of the President to remind everyone that the US is built on diversity. Maybe someone should print it a little bigger.

E or ex means out of, and it takes the ablative. You may be wondering if everything takes the ablative, but don’t worry. The accusative will have its moment in the sun.
