Noun Cases 3: The Vocative

THE VOCATIVE CASE

We use the vocative case when we are speaking directly to the noun.

Hey, Joe! We are calling directly on Joe. A calling is a vocation (or an evocation, or an invocation).

Just as in English, the Latin vocative is almost always the same as the nominative.

passer, hinc vola!         –         Sparrow, fly away from here!
